While the author himself is very much a mystery, Ruperto de Nola’s cookbook and its subsequent translations offers one of the best views into court cuisine on the Iberian Peninsula of its time. This class will cover what we know of the origin of the cookbook, the available foodstuffs of the Iberian Peninsula in the 16th century, tips for reading and redacting recipes, and a collection of redactions from the book, both sweet and savory.

Foodstuffs are one of the oldest currencies in the world and are intimately tied with the concept of political power. This class will explore a series of food items, the cultures that brought them to the Iberian peninsula, how food culture and power hierarchies interact in that space, and recipes for each of those food items from the pre-Roman era to the age of Spanish colonialism.

This class aims to explore ways of interpreting single figure art sources to inform, design, and implement SCA garb. This class will cover the challenges of single figure art inspiration for garb, learnings from case study projects, and tools to better enable garb-makers of all kinds to grow their confidence in the use of visual resources for garb making.

One of the first questions asked when meeting new people in the SCA is often, “And what is your persona?” In this class, we will explore a bit about what persona is, choosing a persona, how one builds and develops a persona, and various ways to bring persona into your everyday SCA.

The Persona Pentathlon is an annual competition sponsored by the Order of the Laurel. The Pentathlon requires five separate items that a single persona would have used, owned, or interacted with. This class will discuss one artisan's experience in planning, preparing, and participating in this competition at 2024's Kingdom Arts and Sciences Festival.

Explore the world of electronic arts and science resources. This class will focus on showing off A&S online, with both free and paid tools, as well as explore the world of alternative forms of documentation outside of the typed paper format many are familiar with. We'll be sharing lessons from The Oak and other SCA users and show how the A&S community can leverage e-SCA for themselves, their households, and dependents.
